About

Simplifi has developed an inexpensive, high quality multichannel amplifier that is perfect for usage within MainLobby Suite.

The amplifier can either be used as a home theater amplifier for multichannel sound output for up to 7.1 sound, or as a multi zone whole house audio system amplifier when used with MusicLobby 3.

Installation

The installation of the Simplifi 7.1 amplifier is very straightforward.

Connect the PC (HTPC as example) to the power connector on the rear of the amp.

Plug your speaker leads to the amplifier's outputs being careful to observe speaker polarity for proper speaker phasing.

Plug your PC sound card outputs into the RCA jack inputs, observing proper channels.

Plug a USB cable (provided with amp) between an unused active PC USB port and the amplifier's USB port. This is to send the required 5 volts that is used by the amp for it's logic circuitry.

Turn on the PC and the amp should power up upon detecting the PC's power draw. If this does not happen, adjust the sensitivity clockwise on the rear of the amp so the amp powers on when PC is running, but not when PC is off or in sleep / hibernation modes.

If you have your PC on a UPS (recommended for reliability), you can plug in a moderate power consuming device into the Simplifi Amp turn on circuit to keep the Amp on, and connect your PC to a UPS directly. Make sure not to exceed the power handling capability of the Simplifi outlet. A low powered device (like a DVD changer) typically will not draw enough power to turn on the Simplifi Amp even on most sensitive adjustment. So, find a moderate power device to serve this purpose.

If you are using the Amp for whole house audio purposes, you can use 6 of the channels for 3 stereo zones. There is one additional channel (the "center" channel) that can be used for a mono amplifier where stereo is not important. Examples would be an outdoor speaker (plug a two minijack to one RCA jack stereo to mono adapter for getting two channels to play in mono - cable not included but available at many electronics stores like Radio Shack). You can also use the mono channel for announcements like from MLSpeak plugin to announce CallerID incoming callers.

New Feature Requests

Ability for MLServer to control the Amp's power status and monitor it's status

Ability for PC to be connected to UPS while Amp is not on UPS (to save battery power for PC uptime).
